Schedule

March 20, 2020

To Our Dearest Clients and Students,

We hope and trust that this message finds you all reasonably safe and well in the face of the many abrupt and profound changes wrought by the COVID-19 global pandemic.

In the last few days starting on March 16, 2020, Teacher Abbey and I made a call to fully suspend the studio’s operations and to give our faculty, our staff and you—our students—a chance to regroup and resource. While we felt the tremendous temptation to embark on a flurry of business continuity initiatives given all the messages that we were seeing and receiving on the Internet and over social media, we also believed that this was perhaps the best time to practice what we’ve taught all these years, which is to pause, to breathe, to come to a place of stillness…and then to act with care and skill coming from a space of wisdom and trust.

Over these last few days, the question Teacher Abbey and I have asked ourselves is this: How can we serve our community in a way that addresses our students’ needs while also upholding our standards in providing safe and effective instruction given the parameters of online delivery mechanisms?

After careful reflection and close consultation with key members of our faculty, what we’ve decided is to focus on offerings that minimize or eliminate the possibility of physical risk while still offering our students the benefits of mindfulness-based practices.

To this end, White Space Wellness will be offering free online classes to the public from March 23 to April 30, 2020 on its Facebook page. From May 1, 2020 onwards, the studio will simply keep the content that's already been made available from the aforementioned time period online for repeat viewings. Kindly note that the restorative yoga, t'ai chi, qigong, sound healing and metta meditation sessions will be indefinitely available on our Facebook page for people to view even after airing. The mindfulness meditation introductory talks, however, will only be available until May 15, 2020. The "weekly" schedule of our online offerings will be as follows:

If you’re viewing any of the above sessions, kindly observe the following guidelines:

1. Before the session, set up your physical space at home in a way that allows you to practice with the least interruption. Have all the props you need prepared in advance. The meditation sessions can be done on a chair or on a cushion on the floor while the sound healing and restorative yoga sessions can be done on a mat or on a bed. We highly suggest that you listen with headphones or external speakers to enhance the sessions’ audio quality.

2. Ten to five minutes before the scheduled start of the class, visit the studio’s Facebook page in order to view the livestream of the session.

3. If you have questions for the teachers, send these in using the Comments section of the livestream. Please be advised that our teachers may not be able to address all of your questions during their sessions and that they may not be able to address your questions after the session either if the volume of inquiries received is too much.

4. Give allowances for the challenges and difficulties that can arise in the context of online instruction. We are all relatively new to this, so approaching the occasional issues with connectivity, volume, etc., with grace, humor, patience and understanding will go a long way.

Depending on what we learn from the process and from your feedback, we may repeat the exact same schedule the following week or post a revised calendar instead. Hence, please check our schedule page on a regular basis.

Having said all that, thank you for your courage in facing these challenging times head-on and for your commitment to your well-being. We look forward to reconnecting with all of you.

With much gratitude and appreciation,
Eileen
