T'ai chi Classes
T'ai chi is a martial art from 13th century China that is more widely practiced today as a meditative exercise. The discipline involves performing a series of graceful, flowing and circular movements that are synchronized with the breath. The regular practice of t'ai chi improves agility, balance, coordination, energy, flexibility and strength while also reducing anxiety, fatigue, stress and tension. The discipline has five major styles distinguished mainly by the speed and pace of their performance and the way the practitioner holds their body in terms of posture and intent. White Space Wellness offers 90 minute-long Chen-style t'ai chi classes on Saturdays from 7:00 to 8:30 am. This style is characterized by low stances, tempo changes and fast and explosive movements and is the oldest of the five t'ai chi styles. No previous experience is required to participate in a Chen-style t'ai chi class.
